Genesee Land Trust: Inclusion Partner highlight!
At the heart of Rochester Accessible Adventures (RAA) is a mission to empower businesses and organizations to operate through a lens of inclusion. This mission was highlighted this fall at the Salmon Creek Nature Preserve, where RAA’s inclusion partner, Genesee Land Trust, recently installed a new accessible viewing platform. This platform is designed to open up the natural beauty of the preserve to all visitors, regardless of mobility, and it represents a vital step in creating more inclusive outdoor spaces for our community.
Genesee Land Trust is dedicated to ensuring that its projects incorporate accessible design, making nature more inclusive and welcoming to everyone. The accessible viewing platform at Salmon Creek allows visitors to enjoy the preserve’s wildlife and landscapes up close, creating opportunities for people with disabilities to connect with nature in a meaningful way. For Genesee Land Trust, inclusion is not just an afterthought; it is a core value shaping every decision. As Lorna Wright, Executive Director of Genesee Land Trust, shared, “Our goal is to think about accessibility and inclusion from the very beginning of every project we undertake. We want everyone to feel that they belong in the spaces we protect.”
RAA’s collaboration with Genesee Land Trust highlights a shared commitment to reshaping how we’ve traditionally approached spaces like the great outdoors. While Nature may not have used Universal Design principles, we know that we can create more inclusive immersion in the outdoors with strategic planning. Stay tuned to more coming as our Inclusion Partners keep making enhancements!
