Spotlight On Stony Point Art Studio & Gallery

Spotlight On… Stony Point Art Studio & Gallery 🎨

Where Creativity and Inclusion Come Together

In this edition of our Spotlight On… series, Rochester Accessible Adventures (RAA) is proud to highlight Stony Point Art Studio & Gallery, an inspiring creative space that is expanding access to the arts for people of all abilities.

With hubs in Fairport and Spencerport, New York, Stony Point Art Studio & Gallery was founded by artist and educator Jeannine Pelusio, whose vision is simple but powerful: art should be accessible to everyone.

Through the Accessibility Education Program — provided by Rochester Accessible Adventures through the New York Power Authority, and the New York State Canal Corporation — Stony Point Art Studio & Gallery is working to ensure that creativity along the Erie Canal corridor is welcoming to all. 🎨

Accessibility Through the Arts

Stony Point Art Studio & Gallery joined the Accessibility Education Program as an RAA Inclusion Partner, participating in a mentored process to evaluate their programs, space, and community outreach through the lens of inclusion.

The program supports recreation providers across the canal system in removing barriers and creating welcoming opportunities for people with disabilities.

At Stony Point Art Studio & Gallery, that commitment shows up in both the physical design of the studio and the structure and delivery of their programs.

A Studio Designed for Access

The studio’s Fairport location was intentionally renovated to provide an accessible and welcoming environment for artists of all abilities.

This includes:

  • Accessible entry and studio layout
  • Flexible classroom spaces that support diverse learning styles
  • Programs designed for participants with a wide range of abilities

Stony Point Art Studio & Gallery’s westside location, in Spencerport, has also been renovated, as principles of accessibility were applied to enhance the ‘functionability’ of that space. With enhanced restroom facilities, new arrangements of art furniture, and a variety of adaptive artistic tools, class participants now benefit from easier access to the creative fun offered on a regular basis.

Pelusio’s goal is to continue to create a space where artists can learn, create, and connect without barriers.

FREE Inclusive Programs Along the Erie Canal

Through the On the Canals initiative, Stony Point Art Studio & Gallery hosts *free* workshops and creative experiences that invite people of all abilities to participate in artistic exploration.

Many programs are designed to be:

  • Inclusive for adults and youth with disabilities

  • Accessible for beginners with no prior art experience

  • Flexible in teaching methods and materials

Workshops often encourage participants to experiment with painting, drawing, and mixed media in a supportive and welcoming environment.

Stony Point Art Studio & Gallery provides many additional opportunities through workshops and on-going classes – some of which have class fees.

Creativity Without Limits

Owner Jeannine Pelusio has spent more than two decades teaching art and understands how important it is for creative spaces to be welcoming.

Her vision for the studio is clear: to cultivate an inclusive community where creativity flourishes and everyone feels inspired to explore their artistic voice.

That philosophy aligns beautifully with the mission of Rochester Accessible Adventures — ensuring that recreation, wellness, and creative opportunities are accessible to people with disabilities across our communities.
